AnyClient setup for Vista?

Hi, I'm trying to get TouchFS to work with Vista & AnyClient.

I've set up AnyClient to connect to the IP Address, port, account, password & WebDAV...but am unable to connect.

Any FAQ on this anywhere? I presume there'll be no need for this with the update.

Thanks

AnyClient or Web Folders patch

Our next update coming out in a few weeks will allow file uploading and viewing w/a standard web browser. As for help w/AnyClient, I'd look at the AnyClient web site for more details. I've never used it myself, but other users have had success with it, so we posted information about it on TouchFS.com in case it would help others experiencing similar issues.

I hate to tell you, I don't know anything about that...but...I don't know anything about AnyClient. This week, I'll have one of our engineers take a look at it to see if there's any "gotchas" involved in using it w/TouchFS.

Before you go and explore the AnyClient option further though, did you install the Software Update for Web Folders patch from Microsoft as mentioned on our Support and FAQ pages? It's helped a lot of Vista and XP Home users connect.

Another Vista workaround mentioned on our Support page tells of a user connecting like this:

  • Went to Computer
  • Map network drive
  • Connect to web site
  • Then typed in my iPod Touch address, http://10.1.1.7:8080

Let us know if any of this helps you.

re:

I also had the same issue with AnyClient - It simply will not connect.

I was however successful in getting it to work with "Web folders" in Vista, but only AFTER i downloaded and installed this Vista patch: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=17C36612-632E-4...

Then I simply followed the instructions as mentioned by Paul:

#1 Select "Computer" in windows explorer.
#2 Click "Map network drive" at the top
#3 In the dialog popup, click the bottom link "Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures"
#4 In new dialog popup window, click "next", then click "Choose a custom network location" - next ->
#5 Type in your ipod touch location, http://192.168.1.15:8080, click next

Your iPod touch should now be added as a webdrive in windows explorer. I had some trouble using login/password initially. It simply didn't seem to accept the username/password I had created, so I simply disabled security. Later I managed to turn on security again and login correctly from a shortcut via commander - Not quite sure about this, but at least you're in.

I was expecting support for the *doc format. Is this something I can expect in an update?

Setting for any Client

I have Any Client working correctly on a number of Vista PC's.
When you select the WebDav option for any client, it greys out the port box so entering the port in there won't work.
So when you specify the host address, enter the whole thing in that one field like you would when mapping a drive:
host: http://192.168.0.10:8080

I hope this helps

Thanks

AnyClient now works for me, using ipaddress:port.

Looking forward to the update.

Word/Excel Support Thread...

Quick answer about Word/Excel support...we're trying. Full details are here.

Re Login / Password with Vista

In their wisdom. MS decided with Vista to increase the security level when looging onto remote drives or locations. So basically it automatically appends domain details to the login details when it tries to log in. This is most annoying as many external devices don't accept this more secure method. So it will get rejected. Even though you only enter a login name and password on the prompt in Vista, it sends additional info to the remote location so it wont succeed unless they strip out the domain/machine info.

If you search for it, there is a registry hack for vista that will set the security level for remote login back to the standard setting that XP and other windows systems used to use. This will fix it.
This info does not apply if you use a client to connect. For a client if you enter a login name and password, thats what actually gets used.

Great Information

Techno...you came through with some quality information again–thanks. I'll see what I can dig up about this registry fix now that I know what to look for.

Depending on how this comes over the wire, it may be something we can easily adjust for or ignore directly in TouchFS.
